This is a great post, I updated everything with no problem at all (see http://www.nostatus.com/btard/geek/01-2007/wordpress-upgrade-to-21/).
I am wondering if there is a niche out there for someone to charge people $$$ for installing a WordPress upgrade?! Ha, kinda half and half a joke.

@ Carlo
I am sure there is a niche user base that can follow the instructions but not do the upgrade themselves only because they do not feel comfortable working with database and such, the fear of screwing thing up I guess. I totally understand that and hence offer this service

Thank you for the instructions, I just ran into a problem where the new wordpress is requiring a mysql version higher than the one we have on our server. Time to upgrade server first.
